CREATING A RESUME

  by Andrea L. Torello

You may be wondering why you need a resume. Most resumes include the same information that your college application asks for, but a resume has four distinct advantages:

•     It will give you an opportunity to provide a full account of your academic and extracurricular achievements, in case there are things that did not fit elsewhere on your application.

•     You can copy information from your resume right on to your application, without having to worry about forgetting things.

•     Your resume will help your counselor and your teachers to write the best possible letter of recommendation.

•     A resume will give you an organized, professional appearance

What follows is a general outline for a master resume. It is not the only way to create a resume; it is only a suggested format. If you have nothing vital to offer under a certain heading, omit it. If there is a heading you can add that will tell important things about you, add it. Like the rest of your application, your resume should reflect your personality, your strengths, and your interests.
