How is financial need determined?
Many factors are considered by P.S.A.S (Private
School Aid Service) *,
income being only one of them. Size of family,
assets/liabilities, living expenses, etc. are
all I taken into consideration. The process
mirrors, to a certain extent, the process used
when applying to college.
If I have more than one child attending Rice
do I receive a discount? Not necessarily,
although it certainly increases your chances
of qualifying for aid. Having children attending
other tuition charging schools, including college,
also will increase your chances of qualifying.
Our family income is high enough that we
are not likely to qualify. Why bother applying
for aid? Although it's true that the
higher the income the less likely it is that
you will qualify, there are other factors considered.
It is suggested going through the process at
least once.
Being Catholic Increases the chance of qualifying?
Parish membership has no bearing on whether
you qualify or not. However, being Catholic
certainly increases the likelihood of receiving
aid if you do qualify.
How am I notified if I qualify for aid?
P.S.A.S. sends a report to the school in March.
The school in turn assesses need in lieu of
funds available and determines the actual award.
Rice will notify you by mail in March of the
results.
