student must accumulate a minimum of 23 credits to graduate.

All students at Rice must enroll in a minimum of
6 periods of course work per semester. Exceptions to
this rule are only made in extreme extenuating circumstances
and only with approval of the Principal.

Transfer students must satisfy all course requirements
for graduation. The only exceptions are:
- One less religion credit for each year not in attendance at Rice, if the
sending school does not require four years of religion.
- Suitable substitutes may be approved for required courses.

Admission will depend on:
- The ability of Rice to meet the educational needs of the student.
- The ability of the student to satisfy all government regulations.
N.B. The principal has the final decision on acceptance. Graduation requirements for foreign students are arranged on an individual basis.

- In order to participate in graduation ceremonies,
a student must complete all graduation requirements
by the end of the second semester preceding Graduation
Day.
The Valedictorian is a student who attended Rice
for four full years and has the highest cumulative
grade point average at the end of the 7thsemester. The Salutatorian is a student
who attended Rice for four full years and has the
second highest cumulative grade point average at the end of the 7th semester.
- In order to be recognized as having achieved "Honors for Four Years," a graduating Senior must have been a student at Rice for four years and have achieved a final grade of B or higher in each subject at the end of each scholastic year as well as at the end of his/her first semester in Grade 12.

Credits
Applicable Toward Graduation

- CREDITS EARNED AT RICE HIGH SCHOOL:
Successful completion of a course at Rice High School or at another high school that serves as an extension of Rice (e.g. Vocational Technical Centers).
- SUMMER SCHOOL (for a course failed at Rice):
- Course must be taken in the summer following the failure.
- Approval from Rice is needed, prior to course registration, indicating credit will be granted upon successful completion of the course.
- Upon receipt of official confirmation indicating successful completion of the summer school course, credit will be granted as appropriate and a final grade will be entered as a P (pass). It will not be factored into the GPA.
- The grade for the failed course will remain as earned on the student transcript.
- Only one summer school course per school year will be allowed for credit.
- TRANSFER STUDENT CREDITS
All credits granted by the sending school will be accepted at Rice provided the
sending school is an accredited secondary school.

Not Applicable Toward Graduation

- Although there may be great benefit in taking
the following types of courses in terms of supplementing
a course of study at Rice, personal enrichment or
advanced standing, Rice will not recognize the credits
earned as applicable towards graduation.
- HIGH SCHOOL: Any new course taken in summer school, in night school, or at a non-affiliated high school.
- COLLEGE: Any course whether summer, day, or evening linking learning to life.
- INDEPENDENT STUDY: Outside of Rice HS.
- HIGH SCHOOL COURSES TAKEN PRIOR TO GRADE 9
N.B. In extraordinary circumstances, a waiver to the credit policy may be requested. The request must be written and directed to the Guidance Director and approved by the principal prior to enrollment.
