On May 17, 1929, an apparently insignificant event occurred at Cathedral High School under Principal Rev. Robert Joyce. “Vaudeville Nite,” as it was called, was an evening of entertainment consisting of stunts and skits performed by members of each of the four classes to raise funds. The event was so well received that it was decided to hold a second show in November of that same year. This time prizes were awarded and the Senior Class of 1930 became the first grand prize winner. In 1932 the name was changed to “Stunt Nite,” and already it had become one of the greatest events of the school year.

Today, Stunt Nite is a unique, entertaining annual community event filled with laughter, song, and dance which builds confidence and forms friendships among the classes. All students are eligible to participate, no stage experience or talent is ever necessary as there is always a role for everyone. The shows must be prepared within 21 days of rehearsal practices. Each class is permitted twenty-five to thirty minutes on stage, time over or under could cost the class a win. Many are surprised to know that each of the four shows is coached by parents, former students, and many on a voluntary basis, as each performance is so exceptionally and professionally presented. The success of Stunt Nite would not be possible without them!

Previously held at the Memorial Auditorium in Burlington the weekend following Thanksgiving, Stunt Nite in 2002 was moved to the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts with a 4:00 matinee and 8:00 evening performance on that Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, for an unforgettable evening of comedy, song, and dance featuring the incredible talents of Rice Memorial High School students as the four classes vie for first place. We know that you will enjoy the show!
